Window Prop

A number of these are scattered around my apartment because the windows cannot be kept open. The only solution in the summer is to jam something between the window and the window pane. This is not ideal, when it's incredibly hot during the summer and no way to keep the windows open.

So this is where this comes into it's own. It's low profile and solid so it won't be knocked off, or blown away (Malmö is incredibly windy), you're safe knowing that the window is open safely.

Creation

This is a great way to use up scrap wood and a lesson in router use. Using a dovetail bit on the router table, route a channel along the grain which is just the right width to wedge nicely on the window lip. Then cut a chamfer and round the edges.

Lessons Learnt

I've made a few of these, I've often put two channels into them to allow for modifying the the gap the window is open by (large or small). However I have realised that I only need one, and can simply rotate the piece by 180 degrees and get the same effect

After 2-3 years of use the there is slight raising of the grain on the oak varients, so next time I'll probably use something stronger than Danish Oil for the finish. The pine versions are fine
